The academy was established in 2011 at the initiative of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, with the aim of being an interdisciplinary forum and a research policy platform for young researchers in Sweden. From the beginning, it was planned that the academy would become a completely independent organisation. Therefore, on October 24, 2013, the Foundation for the Young Academy of Sweden was established, whose task is to ensure that the academy can carry out its independent activities.
