On May 25, nine new members were welcomed to the Young Academy. Young leading researchers from disciplines such as architecture, astronomy and sustainability science build on the interdisciplinary culture that has proven to be a sustainable recipe for success.

Welcoming new members is a privilege. I am very much looking forward to hearing more about their research, as it truly helps to open doors between fields and institutions, which is part of YAS' core mission.

Next on the agenda is Almedalen, where SUA will be present for discussions on research funding, academic freedom, and climate leadership. The application for the For Women in Science Prize will open soon, and in August, SUA will organize the summer school Research Meetings in Abisko. The major research event SUA Day will take place on October 21, so please mark your calendars.
The Swedish Young Academy is open to outstanding and independent researchers in all disciplines who have an interest and ability to engage in the issues and activities that are close to the SYA; who have obtained their doctoral degree approximately 2-10 years ago; and who are active researchers in Sweden. Each year, the academy appoints an election panel that handles the application process and evaluation of the applicants. The election panel consists of members of the academy. External expertise may also be used to evaluate applications, if necessary.
The Swedish Young Academy is an independent, interdisciplinary academy for a selection of the most outstanding young researchers in Sweden. The academy is an independent platform that gives young researchers a strong voice in the research policy debate and works to disseminate research to children and young people. The activities are carried out by a CEO and a secretariat located at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Frescati, Stockholm. The SYA was established in 2011 and has 35-40 members elected for a five-year term.
