About David's research

I am Associate Professor of Scandinavian Languages at Uppsala University. My main interest of research lies in language variation and change. My doctoral dissertation focused on syntactic variation and change in Old Swedish (the loss of null-referential subjects) and many of my later publications also address topics in historical linguistics. I am also interested in questions concerning the modern varieties of the Scandinavian Languages. After receiving his Ph.D. in Scandinavian Languages at Lund University in 2008, I was lecturer in Swedish at Växjö University (2008-2009) and postdoctoral research fellow at University of Copenhagen (2009-2010).

In brief

Born: 1978
Family: Married to Maria Ramberg. Two children born in 2010 and 2013.
Interests: Family and friends. With two young children, time for personal interests - apart from work - is limited. However, I enjoy cooking and being outdoors in nature.
Other: Awarded the pedagogical prize for his teaching as a doctoral student at Lund University in 2006.

I am a member of the Young Academy of Sweden because I am passionate both about research and about matters relating to the prerequisites for conducting research. In particular, I am interested in the position of the humanities – both in Swedish universities and in society at large – and the conditions of the humanities researchers. Considering my background, it may not be surprising that there are issues relating to the humanities which I am particularly interested in, and where I would like to contribute to the debate and influence. Just as much, I am interested in the Young Academy of Sweden because I want to meet researchers from other scientific disciplines.
