Once a year, we plan an academy meeting abroad, and this year we are visiting Brussels!
On the agenda, there is a meeting with the Young Academy in Brussels (Jonge Academie) for joint discussions and comparisons of our research systems. We also make study visits where we investigate current EU issues that impact Swedish research. We meet with Sweden’s Research and Innovation Office in Brussels, operated by the Swedish Research Council and Vinnova, we visit the European Parliament and are welcomed by Swedish MEP Sofie Eriksson, and much more.
The foundation of the Young Academy of Sweden’s activities consists of so-called academy meetings, which are two-day gatherings in a residential format. Academy meetings are held four to five times a year, and the meeting location rotates around the country and abroad so that the members can connect with important people and institutions in the local environment.
At the academy meetings, the doors open between educational institutions and subject areas. Here, members convene to broaden their perspectives and address significant contemporary issues. It is during these occasions that members make decisions about activities, where new ideas for events are raised and embraced, where members present their research, and where interdisciplinary initiatives take place.
