Some researchers become guides, igniting interest, raising questions, and showing the younger generation how knowledge can navigate us through uncertainty. Now we want to highlight those who, despite limited time and few incentives, do this.

I look forward to the jury work with the researchers in the Young Academy of Sweden and journalism colleagues, and as always, to be inspired by science. Looking at the world through those lenses makes it easy to be awed.

With the Research Beacon, the Young Academy of Sweden is shining a spotlight on engaged younger researchers who guide and inspire children and youth, a central target group that represents the future and deserve the best conditions. We also want to increase the visibility of research communication and engage more researchers in this fun endeavor.

Anyone can nominate. The nomination period is open from 10 February to 28 March. The award will be presented at the Young Academy of Sweden’s large annual conference on 23 October. The prize consists of a personal award of 10,000 Swedish kronor.
