I have a diverse background and have worked with chemistry, physics, biomaterials, and biosensors. Among other things, I have studied DNA-protein interactions at the single molecule level where physical techniques are developed and applied to biological questions. I find DNA repair processes particularly interesting – both dynamic processes and those that occur rarely but are crucial for a protein’s function.
I was the chairperson of the Young Academy of Sweden in 2013.
Born: 1973
Family: I have a husband who works as a journalist and two children, 5 and 4 years old. My husband and I met when we were both in a student orchestra, so it’s important to not only focus on studying while in school.
Interests: In addition to my main interests in research and science, I also enjoy photography. I have published photos in three books: “Waiting for the Seven”, “Manhattan”, and “Broadway”. I also play the saxophone in a big band in Gothenburg.
Other: I have participated in the Vätternrundan bicycle race three times.
In 2010, I received an invitation to apply for membership in the Young Academy of Sweden. I shared the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences’ opinion that an academy for younger researchers, at the initial stage of independent careers, was needed. I am passionate about research policy and organization and bringing science to society in different ways, and the Young Academy of Sweden allows me to pursue these issues. Another important reason is to meet, discuss and be inspired by all these amazing people who make up the Young Academy of Sweden.
