About Marcel’s research

Humans are made up of many trillion cells. And to make things more complicated, each of these cells has a complicated life – just like us humans. They are shaped by their family, friends and experiences. Using comprehensive molecular data from single cells, we aim to dissect just how these factors shape a cell’s behaviour, to better understand how each cell’s unique identity may contribute to treatment resistance in cancer.

In brief

Born: 1990
Interests: Archery, hiking, board and computer games.
Miscellaneous: I am not French, and none of our families are called Tarbier, except for my wife and me. Our name is a 50:50 combination of her and my birth name. And Tarbier just sounds better than Sauerdiff.

I joined the Young Academy of Sweden because change won’t happen – or at least not in the way we want – unless we make it happen. I want to help improve communication and the flow of information between early-career researchers and stakeholders; to strengthen working conditions and help shape the future of academia. I’m particularly passionate about doctoral education, evaluation, and collaboration.
