The goal of my research is to identify new risk markers and causes of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. My research group applies modern molecular and epidemiological methods in large population studies to study how diabetes and heart disease are affected by variations in our DNA, circulating biomarkers such as proteins or metabolites, or appearance or function that can be estimated using imaging diagnostics such as ultrasound or magnetic camera surveys. We also explore different lifestyles. Within our field, we often benefit from the possibility of combining data from a variety of sources, ranging from data in different registries to data from different types of clinical examinations of patients. We also examine the gut flora's connection to life-threatening disease.

I love my job as a scientist, but there is lots of potential for improvement in the Swedish university sector. I see the Young Academy of Sweden as a platform to work on these issues.
