At the April academy meeting, a new leadership team was elected for the Young Academy of Sweden. Gabriele Messori, Professor of Meteorology at Uppsala University, will take on the role as Chair. The new leadership team assumes office on 23 May.

It is truly an honourable task to take over the chair from Sofia Lodén! Next, I’m particularly looking forward to meeting the academy’s stakeholders and discussing research policy in Almedalen!

The incoming academic leadership

  • Chair Gabriele Messori, Professor of meteorology at Uppsala University, elected to the academy in 2021.
  • Vice-Chair Elham B. Rostami, neurosurgeon and Associate professor of neurosurgery at Uppsala University and Karolinska Institutet, elected to the academy in 2022.
  • Member Cecilia Engdahl, Associate professor of experimental autoimmunity at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, elected to the academy in 2022, newly appointed to the academic leadership.
  • Member David Karlander, Associate professor of Nordic languages and bilingualism at Uppsala University and Pro Futura Scientia Fellow at the Swedish Collegium for Advanced Studies, elected to the academy in 2023, newly appointed to the academic leadership.
  • Member Måns Magnusson, Assistant lecturer, associate professor of statistics at Uppsala University, elected to the academy in 2023, newly appointed to the academic leadership.

The leadership of the Young Academy of Sweden consists of five academy members: a Chair, a Vice Chair, and three additional members. They are elected for a one-year term at the final academy meeting in the spring. The leadership team prepares matters ahead of academy meetings and meets 6–9 times per year. The academy’s CEO participates in the leadership meetings in an advisory capacity.
