The Young Academy of Sweden engages internationally in several ways. We are part of networks for young academies and bodies providing policy advice to international politics, such as the EU and UNESCO. We also participate in forums where there are opportunities to discuss issues related to internationalisation, for example, with Swedish higher education institutions and research funders.

The academy has a standing preparation group for international activities where one or a couple of members are appointed each year as convener. The convener leads the work in the preparation group together with the secretary.
David Marlevi is the convenor for 2025–2026.
The Young Academy of Sweden holds one of its academy meetings abroad every year. We are also part of several networks and has recurring collaborations, with, for example: the Swedish National Commission for UNESCO, the European National Young Academies – ENYA, the Young Academy Science Advice Structure – YASAS, the South African Swedish University Forum – SASUF, Global Young Academy and, All European Academies – ALLEA.

The strategy for our international activities offers a compass for our future operations. It provides a framework for how we can plan and rank international activities, as well as prioritise and feel confident that we are holding the right course and fulfilling our goals and vision.
The strategy is intended to strengthen and inspire the international work that always originates from the ideas, interests, enthusiasm, and engagement of the members.
Our overarching vision for 2030 – A Free Academy for a Better World – also permeates the international work.

The work of the Young Academy of Sweden is based on support from funders who want to strengthen young researchers and the impact of research. Support for the academy gives a stronger voice and greater opportunities for new academic leaders to emerge.
